We had crazy weather in the last 24 hours: rain and snow in the northern mountains, snow in the south and winds hitting 105 mph on Lone Peak. 2-3” of dense snow fell around Bozeman and Big Sky and 6-9” fell near West Yellowstone and Cooke City. Wind was W-SW and blew 40-80 mph in most areas yesterday and lessened to 20-40 mph this morning. Mountain temperatures are in the 20s. Today the mountains will get 1-2” of snow, below freezing temperatures and W-SW wind at 15-30 mph.

Winds from the south to southwest are blowing 20-35 mph with temperatures in the 20s F near West Yellowstone and Cooke City and in the 30s F in the mountains near Bozeman and Big Sky. Cooke City got 4” of new snow with an inch near West Yellowstone.

Today, temperatures will be in the 30s F in the northern ranges and in the 20s F in the southern ranges. Winds will blow 25-40 mph from the south to southwest. Precipitation will increase this morning with 10-12” of snow around West Yellowstone, 8-10” near Cooke City, 2-4” in Big Sky and south of Bozeman, and 1-2” in the Bridger Range by tomorrow morning. Precipitation will begin as rain at lower elevations and in the northern portions of the advisory area.

Nice won out, and the mountains received 2-4” of new snow across the advisory area yesterday. This morning, mountain temperatures are in the 20s F with 10-20 mph wind from the west to the southwest. Today, temperatures will be in the 30s F with 10-20 mph winds from the south to the southwest. Cooke City and West Yellowstone may get an inch of snow tonight, but the rest of the advisory area will have to wait until tomorrow for new snow.

Since yesterday morning the mountains near Cooke City received 3” of new snow and 1” fell in the southern Madison Range with none elsewhere. Wind has been strong out of the west-southwest, averaging 15-30 mph with gusts to 55 mph. This morning temperatures are 20s F to low 30s F, and up to low 40s F in the Bridger Range. Today, temperatures will cool slightly with snow showers throughout the day, and wind will be out of the west-northwest at 20-30 mph with gusts to 40 mph. The mountains will receive 3-7” of new snow by late tonight.

At 6am, the mountains have 3-6” of new snow, temperatures are teens to low 30s F and wind is westerly at 10-25 mph with gusts of 25-45 mph. Today, temperatures will reach high 20s to low 30s F, and wind will be westerly at 10-25 mph with gusts to 35 mph. Snow showers will break this morning, then are forecast to return briefly tonight with more snow tomorrow night and through the week.

Overnight, mountain temperatures climbed above 0 F for the first time in 36 hours. There is no new snow and westerly winds are 10-15 mph gusting 25-30 mph. Temperatures today will climb into the high single digits to teens F. Moderate westerly winds will continue. Snowfall will begin mid-day with 2-4” expected in the Bridger Range and 3-6” across the rest of the advisory area by tomorrow morning.

If you are yearning for a day alone in the backcountry, today is it. Most areas are -30F, but -39F was recorded at Bridger Bowl.  A W-NW wind is blowing 10-20 mph and gusting to 30 mph creating a soul-freezing wind chill of -75F! Today will warm to -15F and remain so overnight. Tomorrow’s temperatures will be a tropical +10F. Early yesterday morning a trace to 1” of snow fell. Today will be sunny and cold with W-NW wind blowing 10-20 mph.

You are forgiven if you already thought it was winter. Today’s solstice will leave no doubt. Since yesterday morning 14” of snow has fallen in Cooke City, 10” in the southern ranges and 2-5” around Bozeman and Big Sky. Wind is very strong out of the SW-W averaging 20-40 mph with gusts of 50-60 mph. This morning 3-6” will fall in the north and Cooke City, with 2-4” in the southern ranges. Temperature will spiral downward to -20F to -30F by tomorrow morning.

This morning, temperatures are in the single digits to mid-teens F with 15-25 mph winds from the west to the southwest. In the last 24 hours, the mountains near Cooke City received 6” of snow with 2-4” in the mountains from the Taylor Fork through Lionhead Ridge. Today, temperatures will reach the upper teens F with 10-20 mph wind from the southwest. Snowfall will intensify overnight, bringing 8-10” of snow near Cooke City, 6-8” near West Yellowstone and 2-4” to the mountains near Big Sky and Bozeman by morning.

This morning, temperatures are in the single digits above 0 F, winds are 10-25 mph from the west to the southwest and there is 1” of new snow in the mountains near Cooke City. Today, temperatures will be in the low teens F with 15-25 mph winds from the west to the southwest. The mountains around Cooke City will receive 2-3” of new snow by tomorrow morning, with 1-2” near West Yellowstone.
